How to find the right physician

It is important for you to take your time to find the surgeon you trust, as the surgery’s result depends very much on experience and knowledge. A good way to find an experienced surgeon are medical associations; you can place a request for their member lists with them. Or maybe one of your friends has already gained positive experience and can recommend a surgeon.

Following a list of questions you can ask your surgeon. The questions and the readiness of your surgeon to answer them may help you to verify whether he or she is the right choice for you:

  • How long have you been practicing aesthetic surgery? (minimum 5 years)
  • How often have you performed the surgery I want in the last 12 months? May I see your before and after photos?
  • Can I talk to patients of yours who had this surgery?
  • What type of implant do you suggest? Why?
  • What shape of implant do you suggest? Why?
  • How will you perform the surgery? Which access (armpit, areola, fold below the breast) will you choose? Why?
  • What kind of examinations will you do to check my compatibility for the surgery? (A thorough examination by the surgeon includes questions regarding existing allergies, chronic diseases, ingestion of anticoagulants or tendencies for keloid scarring. Women aged over 35 are recommended to have a mammography before breast surgery to exclude the existence of a tumor.)
  • What type of anesthesia will you use? Is it compatible with me? What aftereffects may I experience?
  • What will be the total costs for the surgery?
  • May I see the operation theatre and the recovery room?
  • How many days will I have to take off? How long will it take for me to recover completely?
  • What kind of aftercare will be necessary? How often do I have to have follow-up examinations?
  • Is there anything I need to be aware of after the operation? (e.g. physical cutbacks in sports)
